More Renovation Magic

forever design blog

From last weeks post you know that this is where we are starting with the latest re-do. I still really like the initial thought that I had about a major face-lift  This was my quick sketch that got the ball rolling.

cindy barganier interiors

So I have been collecting things and generally fleshing out the idea  all week. This is where I am so far.

We will rip out the plaster wall with the 1980’s paper exposing the original brick which is gorgeous! The floors and staircase will be either re-finished or re-conditioned to bring out more brown tones and less orange.

The remaining walls will be painted Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter with all trim being Kendall Gray. This is the Kendall Gray chip.

And here is a room with the walls painted Revere Pewter.

The owner and I both fell for this luscious graphic to use as drapery.

Then I started gathering rugs.

FOREVER DESIGN BLOGRunner A is for the long hall that is through the doorway seen just left of stair.

Rug B is a “make me happy” organic that feels like a cotton/wool for the seating group by brick wall.

Big Rug C ( which I wish was really big) will be the bridge between front entry and “waiting area” by brick wall and will set the color story for the rest of the space. It is awesome.

Carpet D is a maybe for the area off the break room upstairs.

This picture shows the contract grade carpet that will be in the offices and as a runner on the staircase.

This grouping shows the carpet with a grasscloth I am considering for the conference areas and the color of the wood floors.

I am headed to Scott’s next week to find great architectural prints like this to hang ceiling to floor.

The  chairs are still up  in the air but this is a possibility:

Renovation Love!

I started on a couple of new projects today. One is a law office in a great old building. Right now it screams, “I was conceived in the 1980s!”

Don’t you  dare say one word to me about Pantone’s color of the year. We are NOT keeping that green wallpaper. End of discussion. LOL

These are the thoughts my little brain has been having this afternoon. Come back tomorrow to see if these bones get some flesh on them or if I start all over.

Ya just never can tell.

 cindy barganier

Now that got MY attention. How about you? I found this tutorial just after fighting the issue in a client’s sunroom…. the ever present LAMP CORD. uhhh

cindy barganier

Materials You’ll Need

  • Lamp.
  • 9-volt battery or 8 AA batteries (to save money, use rechargeables)
  • 9-volt battery clip (like this, only about $2 shipped) or an 8 AA battery pack (like this)
  • Wire strippers
  • Strand of LED lights like these (more on this in a second)
  • Soldering iron (we use this one)
  • Optional: velcro and felt to cover the bottom of the lamp

For step by step directions go here.

I read these and think, “Nah.” haha

You, on the other hand, might start a whole new business just converting lamps for me. BAM!

Sample Makin Time

We had a few delays thanks to Mr.  Flu and Mr. Crud but today finally arrived, the day that we turn the fabric samples over to the rep group and wait to see how the world will receive them. Thanks to all of your wonderful comments I approached the day filled with confidence and excitement.

First we snapped  quick pictures of the each piece on the wall to give us some smaller files to  mail to designers for presentations:

Here are a few of my favs:

Then we put together the sales presentation aka “talking points” booklet. Thanks Shootflyshoot for the pretty pic!

Cindy Barganier Fabric Collection

Then we had to design, print and cut all of the tags for each sample.

Cindy Barganier Fabric Collection

And finally it was time to cut and assemble. All hands on deck ya’ll!

One of the things I am most excited about with the samples is an innovation the mill and I came up with that I have never seen done before.

Notice the row at the bottom of the fabric ( below) which is a smaller scale that the rest? When the designers receive their samples they obviously will not have a full width of fabric therefore they will not know what the full repeat looks like. Instead of having to go the price list or flip over a tag to see a picture they will have a full repeat printed right on the fabric at 1/4 scale so they see true color, true scale, true placement.

Pretty cool idea I think.

They will also be offered almost limitless options for customizing for their jobs. Love that stripe but wish it was vertical instead of horizontal? Your wish is our command.

Love that huge scale but really just need a pillow and don’t want all of the waste? We will decrease the scale and print to the exact size pillow form you have.

This is as custom as you can get without designing it all yourself. We do all the work. You look like a genius. Sweet.

Did I mention that I love these peeps?

Remember last week when I talked about having to reach ( word of the year) out to others who will lift you up and  help you achieve your goals. Well these three plus Jeff and a few others are my chief lifters. That one at the end? She prays for me… all the time… and she’s not even my Mama. haha What sweet encouragement they bring.

Martin Choate has been my Duralee rep for the last decade and has walked this walk every step of the way with me.

Her cute hubby, Tab, has started his own rep group called White Calf Designs and they have assembled quite an impressive group of companies to represent. I am so honored to have made the cut!!  They have the exclusive rights to show and sell so if you are interested, give them at shout out at tab.choate@knology.net .

They came in bearing these gorgeous flowers

and then jumped right in there pulling, cutting, tagging and folding.

Cindy Barganier Fabric Collection

Thanks guys. What a great day.

Before we knew it we had a big beautiful pile of debutantes ready to make their debut. So get ’em girls.

The world is your oyster.

Oh! and Happy Friday Ya’ll. Can you believe ‘Bama got snow?

They Will Soar With Wings Like Eagles

This is Amazing. It is no wonder there are

scriptural references to the eagle!

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I

did.

And there is no wonder the bald eagle has

such a significant symbolism to our country.

When it rains,

most birds head for shelter.

The eagle is the only bird that, in order

to avoid the rain,

starts flying above the

clouds.

An amazing tidbit about the Eagle’s

eyesight: The eagle can probably identify a rabbit moving almost a

mile away.Meaning, an eagle flying at an altitude of 1000 feet

over open country could spot prey over an area of almost 3 square

miles from a fixed position.

No wonder God wants us to spread our

wings and soar with eagles.

Let’s keep REACHING this year to see where God’s grace will take us

My Word For The Year

My friend, Layla, has a “word for the year”. I thought it was such a neat idea that I adopted it. Then Tobi Fairley adopted it from me then…. well, let’s just say it is spreading rapidly. So here we are with a linky party for all of our words. You should join us!

My word is REACH and it has great meaning for me this year.

I have so many goals, dreams, ambitions all of which are stretching me to REACH them.

I have health goals that I must reach in order to have the stamina to do all of the things I want to do. Tobi has been my inspiration here as she has hit the mark in a big way with her “I’m getting healthy and fit no matter what it takes attitude last year.” She did it too!

cindy barganier

I have career goals that require that I reach out to others for help.

reach out

I get so excited when I can help a friend reach a goal that at first seemed so unattainable. I have to remember that it is a blessing for others to do the same for me.

There are so many promises out there just waiting for us to reach out in child-like faith and take them.

reach for the promises

Therefore, this year I will reach out  a compassionate hand to help those that are hurting.

reaching ou

I will reach out to new friends for who knows where that might lead.

reach out and connect

I will reach for the stars and really go after what I want.

reach for the stars

And I will do it all with a sense of abandonment that comes from a heart of joy because “the joy of the Lord is my strength”.

reach wildly

    reach poem

What about you? Who has inspired you to live a richer life and what word says it all for you this year?

2013 Color Of The Year

pantone.jpg

” 2013 is all about a vivid, verdant shade of green that “enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions,” said Eiseman in a press release. “It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green.“
The prevalence of green has been steadily rising for several seasons, especially in the fashion and couture markets, and even on the red carpet.

Pantone experts put a great deal of effort into choosing the annual color of the year, looking for influences in entertainment, traveling art collections, popular destinations or even sporting events that garner worldwide attention, according to the company.

Attention will be paid by all the fabric houses as they quickly come up with
color and pattern featuring this new trend color – Emerald.

We will definitely be seeing more.
Last years color was Tangerine.
Cindy Barganier Interiors

I was more a fan of this one. Never been a big emerald girl. However, I guess I am sort of on track to transition with this fabric from my 2013 collection:

Up, Up and Away

As usual, my dreams for the new year  involve travel and this year is no different.

I don’t really think that any of these are in the hopper for 2013 but I do love Realis and Chateaux properties. They have added some new ones. Wanna go with me?
