It’s Inspection Day And I Like What I See!

I have been inspecting a lot of different job sites this week and thought I would let you see a little of what my week was like. In a word…. exciting!

First we headed north to watch the walls start up on this beauty.

I love a dramatic driveway.

It  will soon look like this.

Yeah. I know.  🙂

Do you have any idea how many decisions go into a project like this? The number of knobs alone will make your head hurt.

Then we did a u-ey and headed south for another beauty.

Can you tell from that sky that it was cold??

The sunsets here are fab.

An infinity pool will soon enjoy this view. Hope I’m invited.

So far we started with hardwood floors, marble and columns then we went to exposed beams, limestone floors and antique doors.

I’m having fun. Are you?

Now we move to some color, tile and cabinet inspections.

Yippee. All aboard.

Several people have opted for a walk-in shower lately. I love using large tiles on a broken joint in these. Not only does it eliminate a lot of grout but it gives a very gracious feel.

The Cabinets are here!

Two weeks ago we made the call t0 add planks to this wall only. (You know how I love my wood walls.) Only the splash directly behind the range will have a decorative tile.

Awesome blossom!

I love that the bookshelves for cookbooks are hidden from sight and face the range. (See next picture.)

This particular house is a bittersweet blessing for me. It is the last house that my sweet friend Stan Godwin designed. I am finishing it for him just as we used to finish each other’s sentences. I hear his one-liners ringing in my head as I work on this project and just have to laugh. He was one of a kind.

I haven’t downloaded the pictures on the other projects yet but hopefully this will whet your appetite to follow along as we attempt to make the world a more lovely place.

Thank you dear clients.

xoxo

It’s All About The Details

We hear it all the time, “the details make the project”. I agree, but what exactly are we talking about?

Here are some awesome examples of additions both big and small that took the project to the next level. This is simply a jaw-dropping corner. I worked with a magician trim carpenter like this a few years ago where every little piece was hand cut. I would find myself sitting in the floor and just watching him.

Sometimes it is the simplest thing, like the addition of this quatrofoil, that takes the island from hohum to beautiful.

Before and After Living Room

Before and After posts are my very favorites. Today we’re talking Living Rooms.

Don’t you agree that seeing a room go from unused and unloved – because it is just not “you” – to something that makes you do the happy dance every time you walk by is something worth celebrating???  I do! And so does the sweet family who lives in this home. We have been slowly working our way through the house making each room a special place designed just for their family and I can’t even tell you how much fun we have had.

So…… I give you the Living Room…… BEFORE

living before

The room was dark and oh so serious and did I mention never used? “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

After much discussion with the owners I learned that what they really wanted was an adult space where they could close those double bi-fold doors to the den and actually have a conversation without Dora’s input. (You would have to have kids or grands to understand.) They wanted bright and happy and sophisticated. They wanted to be able to sit in a pleasant environment and watch the kids in the pool which is just beyond that big window that was BEHIND the sofa.  (Think jump up and turn around at every scream. Not good.)

Sooooooooooooo,  we did this.

Bower Bird… The Original Decorator!

While at Auburn this week for the Grisham-Trentham Lecture Series I learned something fascinating. Did you know that if you are planning to build in Australia or New Guinea  that your best bet for a great design partner just might be a bird??

Yep. You heard me right. The Australian Bower Bird just might be the original decorator

You really must watch this video. It will make your day and who knows, maybe you will get a little color inspiration in the process.

http://

While you enjoy the land of Bowery, I will be celebrating a birthday. My sweetie is kidnapping me this very afternoon for a much needed get-away. We will be going off the grid for four whole days. Not sure I can do that but I am going to give it the old college try.

If you need me, please leave a message on the office phone and I will begin the return process at the end of next week. Thanks for understanding the need for a little R and R.

I will be a better design partner for it. …… Promise!

See you soon. Happy decorating little Bower Bird.
