Giving Thanks For Great Friends

I had a wonderful time today helping my friend and long time client, Charlotte, get her fabulous cabin in the country ready for Thanksgiving.

Every year we begin at Thanksgiving to get ready for Christmas because that’s when their largest gathering takes place.

Because this is their “get away” home we have to mix some artificial in with the fresh so that by the time all of the parties roll around the greenery won’t all be  rooootttteeennn.  (rotten)

When we were all children my precious  little red-headed cousin,David, went out in the back yard and picked some pretty purple weeds that were growing and hid them in his closet to surprise his Mama  for Mother’s Day.  When he woke up the next morning and went to retrieve his gift he came running into the kitchen with his little bouquet wilting over his tiny hand and declared that they were rooottteeennn. LOL We have used the expression ever since.

Hobby Lobby has these great little twig cone shaped baskets that are just right for door arrangements.

The ribbon is sheet moss ribbon.

I had a little Pinterest fun with the mantle but let me tell you… Martha lied…

there is NOTHING easy about those pinecone trees!

Her instructions were to “just use some wire picks on the cones and stick them in at an angle”.

Yea, right!! 50 glue sticks later I finished. haha

Just go straight for the glue- forget the picks.

The blue berries on the Juniper this year made me do a happy dance. They are gorgeous!

I don’t know why this picture is fuzzy but you need to see a close up of those berries.

We decided to pretend like the deer were hiding in them.

We had this cabinet custom made several years ago and it remains one of my favorite pieces.

Martha lied again… when will I ever learn???

Those wheat stands require 15 hands.

Wheat and berries speak of the bounty for which we are thankful.

And never able to resist the call of the tiny white lights, the garland must at least partially go up.

Forgive all of the junk lying everywhere. We were busy elves!!

I wish I had a picture of sweet Grandbaby Samuel who came to visit while I was there.

What a doll he is.

Have you started your decorating yet? Better get busy.

The pilgrims are coming!!!

And at my house there are lots of them. 🙂
