A Look Back At 2013

I think it is healthy to always look back at the year that is behind us and reflect on all that we, with the help of all the amazing people God puts in our path, were able to accomplish. I don’t know about you but I am hard on myself thinking that I could have/should have done more. Looking back sometimes becomes an eyeopener when you are able to see in one “envelope” all of the wonderful things that were accomplished in one 12 month period. I am humbled, grateful and energized when I realize how close I am to reaching some milestones. Thank you for the part that you played in that.

Now, for a little walk down memory lane:

In January, we launched Cindy Barganier Textiles.

In February I started Tuesdays With Cindy seminar series in the studio. We had some fun times together.

I also met one of my favorite composers, Ken Medema.

March brought this fabulous project.

We came out of the ground not long after.

And saw this beautiful kitchen getting close to being finished.

In April we continued to work on a fabulous house in Montgomery. You saw the dining room in December: This is a watercolor rendering of that shot. (Surprise Jen!)

In May,  DSR Showroom in Birmingham, Al picked up the fabric line.

We had a really great mastermind brainstorming session with some of the best minds in the industry on New Urbanism and development.

Thank you for your generosity of time and spirit Nathan Norris.

I literally watched a movie being made from my back door. Can’t wait to see Layla Palmer featured on American Blogger this year.

Pop Up Stores Down By The Riverside!

To start at the beginning of this post click here.

The headliners for Southern Makers were famous Alabamian Apparel Designers Natalie Chanin and Billy Reid. Both, in recent years, have moved their operations home to Florence, Alabama from New York and have embraced their roots as the world has embraced them.

Cindy Barganier

Cindy Barganier

Cindy Barganier

Cindy Barganier

He did a great job of helping people get a sense of what his real stores feel like. They are all decorated like houses in buildings made to feel old with lots of brick, art, family relics etc. You’ve never met anyone more laid back. Makes me wonder what he’s like when he’s stressed. Does he ever get stressed? Surely.

This was my very favorite “stage prop” that he used.

Cindy Barganier

They covered a long table and said, “Ducks in a row.” So cute.

This little one thought so, too.

Cindy Barganier

Cute peeps with peeps. 🙂

Cindy Barganier

Natalie’s store was next door.

If you aren’t familiar with her work, her garments are all handcrafted using quilting stitches and they are some of the softest things you will ever touch. Read her fascinating storyhere.

They both gave lectures or taught seminars.

It was great to see some really young folks in this seminar learning a trade.

Natalie’s daughter was very patient through it all. 🙂

Then there were the local favorites:

Susan Starr

Clowning around with Mark Dauber.

My favorites of his work change so rapidly I call them the Dauber Dailies.

So from start to finish I would give it an A.

Cindy Barganier

My team! They were awesome.

As some came to mingle

Cindy Barganier

some came to ponder apparently. tee hee

Cindy Barganier

He is so distinquished!

Some came to be inspired.

Cindy Barganier

my answer:

Cindy Barganier

Some learned to print the old fashioned way.

Cindy Barganier

And others just enjoyed an afternoon together.

Cindy Barganier

For me, it was a whole lotta all of the above.

I was inspired. I learned. I saw lots of friends. I hopefully contributed.

It doesn’t get any better than that.

So here’s my shadow bidding you adieu and sayin’

Cindy Barganier

as I say goodbye to my own friends.

Cindy Barganier

M.R. I adore you and I always giggle when I see Greg’s eyes disappear every time he laughs.  You two help to make the South great.

Love you.

It’s a wrap!

Speakin’, Streakin’ and Seekin’

It was a busy Saturday. I spoke for the women’s conference at Vaughn Forest in Montgomery, AL at 10 then ran like a crazy woman downtown in time to help set up for the Southern Makers event (which was fantastic if you missed it) and spent late afternoon seeking interviews with all the uber talented folks represented. I have a million photos and plan to share a little photo journalism over the next few days. You should feel like you were there!

IMG_0744

Thanks, ladies, for having me. You were a delightful audience.

These events take lots of hands and lots of hard work. I love people who go the extra mile to make it special. One of those people is Garlan Gudger from Southern Accents in Cullman. I cannot believe the work that man put into Southern Makers. He brought 4 tractor trailer trucks of items down to create the staging for the event. Garlan, I hope you have 3 days to sleep. You deserve it!

It’s A Sunshiny Day!

David Keochkerian

David Keochkerian

It’s a glorious day! The kind of day that makes you want to pull out the box and paint with all the colors. I think I will.

After a weekend filled with pink peonies, orchids, roses and hydrangeas as I helped with a sweet friend’s wedding; and a sneak peak at my child’s gorgeous new home it would seem that this week would have a hard time measuring up. Not so. This exciting week brings:

Our first real ballet (balyeah) recital complete with costumes! for the three year old.
